Care & Emergencies

Establish Care with Freedom Run Equine

Building a relationship with your equine veterinarian before you need one is one of the best things you can do for your horse.

At Freedom Run Equine Veterinary, we provide proactive, personalized care for horses throughout Tucson and Southern Arizona. Our goal is to get to know your horse, understand what is normal for them, and work alongside you to support their health, comfort, and performance.

We ask our established clients to schedule twice-yearly equine wellness exams and recommended vaccinations, as well as an annual dental exam and floating as needed.

What a Wellness Exam Covers

Routine wellness visits allow us to look at the whole horse—not just a single concern.

In addition to a comprehensive physical examination, we’ll discuss your horse’s nutrition, exercise and performance program, lameness concerns, and farrier care. Each wellness exam includes a thorough evaluation of the heart, eyes, skin, and respiratory system to help identify subtle changes or underlying conditions before they become bigger problems.

Comprehensive Physical Exam

01.

Nutrition & Performance

03.

Heart, Eyes, Skin & Respiratory

Recommended Schedule

Twice-Yearly Wellness Exams

Schedule regular equine wellness exams along with recommended vaccinations to monitor your horse's health and preventative care needs.

Annual Dental Exam

Annual dental examinations help us monitor your horse's oral health, with floating performed as needed.

Why It Matters

Regular preventative care gives us the opportunity to get to know your horse’s normal. That relationship and medical history can be invaluable when something changes or an emergency occurs. Our goal isn’t simply to treat your horse when something goes wrong. It’s to work alongside you to help keep your horse healthy, comfortable, and performing at their best.

Equine Emergency Care

When something isn’t right with your horse, you shouldn’t have to wonder who to call. Freedom Run Equine Veterinary provides 24/7/365 emergency veterinary care for our established clients throughout our Southern Arizona service areas. We will not leave you hanging.

When To Reach Out

If you are concerned about your horse, we encourage you to reach out. Sometimes the smallest change can be worth a conversation.

Equine Telemedicine

Dr. Baltrus also offers equine telemedicine for routine and after-hours questions when appropriate.

Telemedicine may provide an option for certain questions or concerns when an in-person examination is not immediately necessary or appropriate.

Emergency Care for Non-Established Clients

Both Freedom Run veterinarians are available for scheduled appointments for horse owners who do not wish to formally establish care.

However, emergency availability is reserved for clients who have an established veterinary relationship with Freedom Run.

01.

Seen Within the Past Year

If your horse has been examined by a Freedom Run veterinarian within the past year, we will do everything we can to assist you during an emergency. If we are unavailable, we will try to help identify other available veterinary resources.

02.

New or Lapsed (1+ Year) Clients

If you have never worked with Freedom Run, or it has been more than one year since we last examined your horse, we cannot provide emergency services. This policy allows us to maintain reliable emergency availability for the clients and horses who have established an ongoing veterinary relationship with our practice.

Exceptional Care for Every Horse.

Your horse deserves thoughtful, personalized veterinary care from a team that understands both horses and their owners. Whether your horse needs routine care, preventative medicine, or specialized attention, Freedom Run is here to help.
